Does anyone else crave particular foods during PEM that you wouldn't normally eat? What are they?

For me it's fish. I hate seafood, the taste and smell nauseates me and even when I have these cravings I have to force it down. But it feels like my body needs it when I'm in a crash. Maybe it's the vitamin D or maybe it's the omega-3. Since it's so hard for me to make myself eat fish I'm thinking of trying to get those nutrients from supplements instead...

Hey River thats interesting, sounds like regular seafood intake may be helpful. For me when I'm feeling extra bad I lose alot of appetite. I do feel like junky food but thats probably because my willpower is low in those times.

@stevengao I actually think you may feel like junk food because it takes much less energy to digest and gives you more "bang for your buck" so to speak. I was actually talking to another chronically ill friend earlier about this, the only thing that doesn't give them gastric upset during a flare is highly processed food. Also when I'm having a nausea flare I find I have to rely on junk food just to get enough calories without feeling sick.

I go junk food with PEM because I feel miserable and I am a comfort eater. Sigh. Not a good match with ME/CFS.

Also, if I am feeling faint I think my back brain thinks I might be starving and sends me lots of messages that eating something might make me feel better. (It doesn't. )

I do get hungry for protein foods also, just generally, and that does include fish.

I hope the supplements might work @river
