Sleeping a lot
-
I've disappeared for a bit because my symptoms got so much better after taking vitamin D I thought maybe I was wrong about ME/CFS in the first place. I even did some walking without much PEM. Anyway turns out I was wrong because my vitamin D is fine but right now lifting my hands to type is hard and it's been like this for a while.
I didn't even get to enjoy the break in symptoms because I broke my wrist and that makes everything harder again.
Anyway since the symptom flare up I've been sleeping like 12 to 16 hours a day and feeling sleepy as well as fatigued. Is this a thing that happens with ME/CFS or that anyone else has experienced?

@rainbow-zebra isn't it a runaround (mentally, psychologically) to try to get a handle on the mess of symptoms. Sigh.
But a big hooray for some good days! But oh no the broken wrist!
Sleep seems to be one of those "there are two types of people with ME/CFS" things, as some of us sleep all the time, and others of us struggle to sleep at all.
I am on the insomnia side, but know many people struggle to be awake. You really need to watch for dehydration with such long hours sleeping. It makes the 'unrefreshing sleep' even worse.
it is healing sleep.
Best wishes

@rainbow-zebra so this is interesting cause like dot says it seems like there are 2 types of people when it comes to sleep dysfunction... But I am both depending on situation!
Normally terrible insomnia, disrupted nights etc. and never feel sleepy during the day.
But when I reach what I think of as "end-stage" PEM - the worst it gets - I became incredibly drowsy and sleep constantly. This doesn't happen very often. It's been happening more recently since I became severe
So if sleepiness is not normal for you I would take it as a warning sign you might have overdone it worse than usual. But don't try to fight it. I jump at any chance to sleep I get, as its so hard for me normally and my body needs the recovery time. Just try to get enough fluids and electrolytes like Dot says and maybe do something that makes you happy in any moments of wakefulness. I get depressed easily when I sleep all the time. -
@river @Dot thank you both! I hadn't even considered fluids and was wondering why I was so thirsty. I'm normally on the not enough sleep side so this came as a surprise. I haven't been getting much PEM, but I did physically injure myself quite a bit during the breaking of my wrist because rocks are unforgiving, so it might be that my body's reacting similarly to that?

@rainbow-zebra Pain and shock could have made you need to sleep, especially if you were taking painkillers. And then if you did get dehydrated that would compound it, and make you more exhausted and harder to get up.
I do hope hydrating yourself makes a big difference.
