September Chat

  • Good morning,
The sun is shining through the window again, and the rain watered my plants.

Great advice @Glimmer I listened and I was sensible with the compost.

A big relief because I have a big day today. An appt with my exercise physiologist (trying to build my core strrength without making my CFS worse) and also taking my friend to another radiotherapy appt.

Cheers to everyone. Hoping you can start this week off nicely.

    Have a cuppa! β˜• β˜• β˜• and a medal πŸ₯‡ πŸ₯‡ πŸ₯‡ You deserve both.

  • Hello everyone ... seems everyone has been plodding along ... A new week and it's all about appointment setting for me. Unfortunately the GPs in regional areas change quite often and I have a new one to see soon. More MRI's needed and other checks: the good news is I don't have to travel to Melbourne for these appointments anymore as telehealth video calls have solved that problem and our region now has the capacity to do the specific MRI that the Melbourne hospital require, although bookings are needed well in advance. I'm booking for an appointment in January 2022 .. early bird catches the worm I suppose ... Everything is bulk billed through Medicare which I am so grateful for .... I don't know if anyone has had to fill out a travel form before if travelling to a major city for medical but I'm sure glad I don't need to this time round. The rebate for travel is great but getting the form and having it filled out at the appointments is a lengthy task, then it needs to be posted and you wait several weeks for the rebate. I'm feeling less anxious about the whole medical process now that most of it can be done from where I live ... such a relief... hope everyone has a great evening ...πŸ€“

  • @crashdummy What a relief for you not having to do the trip to Melbourne. I couldn’t contemplate such a trip. You only need to get through the appointments now. That’s a long wait for an MRI (I used to do MRI bookings in a previous life) but it’s certainly worth the wait not having to travel. Yes I’ve had to fill out many a travel form but also well worth it once the rebate arrives. It’s great that the new technology is out there to make our lives that much easier.😊

  • Hello,
I am not feeling too bad today, but noticeably not getting anything done. Sigh.
    C'est la vie.

@crashdummy hooray for telehealth and other changes to medical appointments! The best thing to come out of this pandemic!
    And hooray for Medicare.

I really need to do some cooking today (things need to be used before they are past it). I will get it down into tiny steps and see if I can make it through. Wish me luck!

And good luck to everyone for the things you need to get done today.

    Q. Guess what I saw on a strawberry plant just now?

    A. 🐞

    Best wishes all

  • Hello ME/CFS Community,
Here is your morning chat and cuppa β˜•
Pop on for a quick hello to everyone who is too crook to write here.

Hello from me to everyone who is too crook to write here today. πŸ‘‹

My quiet day yesterday paid off. I finally got a bit of energy late in the afternoon and my good planning paid off. I made the stew and today I will put it into ramekins, top them with a delicious South American corn custard (ask me anything!) and freeze them all except one I will have for dinner.
(It has been a bit drawn out, I meant to do the whole thing on Sunday, but that's life with ME/CFS)

We delight in small news here πŸ˜„ What is yours?

    Best wishes for today 🐸

  • @Dot Well I have to tell you that I’m very pleased with myself. Yesterday I managed to get up early and go for a fasting pathology test and enjoyed my thermos and sandwich afterwards. Then I called into a different hairdresser where they do walk ins. Quick and easy, and no talking. And a very good job as well. I can’t believe that I managed two appointments in one day, and so far today I’m feeling okay. πŸ€—
You have some interesting recipes Dot….

  • @Dot That stew sounds yum .... I love little ramekins: they are great one pot dinners ... perfect ... I've got a set of four somewhere .... I'm going to dig them out ... glad you recharged ....πŸ€“

  • @Glimmer You must be feeling great with a new haircut ... there isn't any better feeling than getting the ''do'' right . Love the imagery of you and your thermos plus sandwiches ... Fasting isn't easy with ME: robbing your body for the test can leave you spinning around in your head: well done with having the food and drink on hand ... ☺

  • Hi everyone. I'm a partner/carer of someone who's been living with chronic fatigue for about five years. It's really nice to find a forum like this! I'm really looking for some advice - my partner's looking for a new GP and it's been pretty disheartening finding someone who takes fatigue seriously, let alone knows anything about it. On top of that, the specialist he was seeing at the Alfred has moved on. Would anyone have any recommendations for a good GP and/or specialist in Melbourne (in the northern suburbs would be nice)?

  • Community Moderator

Welcome @Antimony and good on you for looking out for your partner πŸ™‚ Just so you know, it's not appropriate to post recommendations for doctors in the forum, but people can send you messages via the "chat" option.

Also, if you haven't tried it already, the Facebook group below may be worth looking into:

  • Good morning lovelies,

Welcome here @Antimony, to you and your partner. I do hope you can find a good specialist. I am also in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, but I am just trying out a new GP (my old one retired) and while she seems great I am not recommending her until I know her better. So I do hope someone messages you with a great option, and/or that fb group comes up with the goods. 🀞

@Glimmer Ooh isn't it lovely when good planning and that proportion of good luck that is part of every venture, combine to make such a productive day. Woot! 🀹
I hope the day continued nicely and that you are loving your haircut.
Good luck for the test results too.

@crashdummy Yay ramekins. Mine are 2 cup sized so perfect for a small meal.

    Hi @Daffy_Dave

    Hi to everyone else too.

I did get my ramekins finished (four in the freezer, two in the fridge and one eaten last night). Then I had a much better sleep than usual! So I have woken up in a good space to get things done (you should see the state of my kitchen after that 4 day ramekin marathon)
    (okay, no you shouldn't.... )
Plus it is another glorious Melbourne day and I think I will have a chance to sit out and enjoy it.

I'm so excited I am at great risk of overdoing things, so please send me urgent messages that I don't have as many spoons as I think I do!

Off to the kitchen. Music on. Lots of hot soapy water. But I will also put the timer on for 20 minutes.

What is your day like? Hope it has some good things in it. Best wishes and all good things πŸ€

  • @Dot Remember the spoons ……

  • @Glimmer Thanks πŸ™‚ Very helpful!

(I did well until I finished 20 mins and made a cuppa, knocked the milk which managed to get inside a closed drawer and all over everything on the lower shelves and required another 20 mins cleaning! Aaaargh!)

But I have survived to live another precious day.

Cheers everyone, best wishes for today!

  • @artist55 Thinking of you. Hope you are in bed, resting, all day!

  • Good morning everyone 😊 Just checking in to say hi and hope everyone is doing better than they hoped for.

The busyness of last week caught up with me and I ended up taking Thursday off. I rested all day and yesterday too but no improvement, to be honest, so it’s back on the couch today πŸ›‹

I feel guilty for taking time off and for missing our 32nd wedding anniversary celebration and I’m annoyed with myself in general but trying to remember that there are still lots of good things to focus on.

Wishing you all a day filled with little moments of joy πŸ€—

  • @artist55 Hi! Sorry it’s another couch day for you, and sorry you’re not up to celebrating your Anniversary. Congratulations to you both. I can relate entirely about your annoyance of missing out, as there are many events that I had to cancel in the past. Interesting one for me today. My lovely neighbour has organised a small get together with other neighbours to celebrate my birthday today at a local cafe. I’m very annoyed because I didn’t sleep last night and normally I’d cancel, but I can’t with this one! I’ll have to dose up on Panadol and hope the adrenaline will kick in. Where’s that magic energy pill when we need it! It will be couch day for me tomorrow, and probably the next …..

  • Hello, cuppas and medals everyone, for a week done!
    β˜• β˜• β˜• β˜• β˜• β˜• πŸ… πŸ… πŸ… πŸ… πŸ… πŸ…

@artist55 I should hope you are on the couch today! Goodness me, don't be annoyed with yourself! You did the CFS hero thing of doing a whole load more than you normally do (which is already too much!) and managed to get to Thursday before you had to take a break.
Ofcourse one day off wasn't enough to compensate (you really need at least a week off for each of those extra days you did).

Absolutely awful that you had to miss an anniversary celebration, but your health has to be top priority. Look after it properly this year, and you have a good chance you will be able to manage work and anniversary celebration next year.

But look! Woot, woot, your virtual ME/CFS-style Anniversary Celebration is happening right now!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Mr and Mrs Artist55

@Glimmer Another precious celebration. Fingers crossed it is one of those times a little bit of extra energy pops up from somewhere and carries you through, so you don't just survive it, you even enjoy it. (But straight to the couch when you get home! πŸ˜‰ )
Hooray for you being in the world!

    Cheers everyone

  • @Dot Thankyou for the pretty card Dot. πŸ’

  • @Glimmer Wishing you a very happy birthday πŸŽˆπŸŽˆπŸ’πŸŽˆπŸŽˆand hoping that your celebration with friends doesn’t use too much precious energy - but sometimes it’s almost worth the spoons!

@Dot thank you very much for the fireworks and kind words. The kids got together and paid for us to have a meal and weekend away so we have something lovely to look forward to in a few weeks’ time 😊

I hope you are all making the most of the spring weather. It’s sunny here in WA β˜€οΈ

  • Sunday already, I've got the day started and I am ready to write (I also have an email to a friend I want to get written today) (About the only friend who still uses email!).

I am so glad you enjoyed the card @Glimmer. I hope you are having a big slow morning rest where you don't have to do anything. I'm keen to know how you are after a tricky outing, but don't write until you are up to it!

@artist55, what excellent kids! Worth getting married for πŸ˜‰
Isn't it good with CFS to have things planned for the future so you have a chance of being well prepared and ready to make the most of it. (Just try to avoid a @Glimmer-style bad night before it) (as if any of us can! 😲 )

Ok, my list for today: email, drink lots of water, have a bath, buy milk. Olympic sports all of them!

Best wishes for your day πŸ”
