Applicable affirmations

Earlier in the week @katt raised an important point about how difficult it is to find motivational statements that are actually helpful. I’ve been on a similar quest to find some inspirational quotes or motivational mottos that have a little more lived experience of chronic conditions. The main one I repeat is more of a mantra – Be kind to yourself. So I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone has found any affirmations that are applicable in an ME/CFS context.

Mine is "no way out but through". I find this far more helpful than the similar and better known "this too shall pass" because it actually gives me the courage to endure a lot of hardship and find strength, rather than impatiently waiting for it to be over (if that makes sense)

@river
makes sense why that works better

We don't usually get involved as admin.. but we really couldn't resist this one! Incredible patient advocate Ricky Buchanan developed this amazing set of energy saving self care cards a couple of years ago and they are

amazing
-
beautiful (she created them all herself and it took at least a year because Ricky is pretty severely unwell)
-
completely understanding of chronic illness
Emerge Australia 100% endorses Ricky's cards - you can look at them, get more info and purchase a pack here:

At current exchange rates they cost about $25 AUD and I think there may be a shipping charge. They're brilliant though

Love this topic @gretch I use “ Be kind to Me” a lot! It’s a goodie ....
@river I like your “no way out but through “ too ...I often also think to myself that “ I’ve made it this far so....”
I often think “well I’ve had worse days than this”.... which is not really a saying as such although it helps me pull through.
Then on the complete bed days I say to myself always....” it’s my day off! “
Not sure if these will help anyone else I do know that it certainly helps me to take back my power and voice things like that.A very important thread for everyone with ME/CFS.
Words can be so powerful to help get us through the very tough days.

@Tess it helps. thanks.

A favourite of mine to keep me inspired to keep on going is - 'when one door closes, another will open, never give up. And it is so 'true' too.

A really good thread @gretch
Not an affirmation, but the catch phrase of an allegorical story:
"Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
